2009 - Lee Ester News Fellowship

WPR's Avory Brookins

In honor of her late husband’s career, Leota Ester endowed the Lee Ester News Fellowship for Wisconsin Public Radio in 2009. The Fellowship provides the opportunity for a young journalist to more fully develop his or her broadcast journalism skills. The fellowship is a nine-month position designed for recent graduates, or those in the early years of their careers, who show promise as radio news reporters.

The current Lee Ester Fellow is Avory Brookins (pictured), a graduate of Temple University and a former Community Reporter at WHYY in Philadelphia. Previous Fellows include Parth Shah, who is working at NPR and Kirk Carapezza, who is a Reporter for WGBH in Boston.
