My elementary school in Evansville, Wisconsin did not have an art teacher in the early and mid 1950s. Weekly, my class tuned into “Let’s Draw” with the Schwalbachs as our over-the-air instructors.
In 1963 (the first year that the UW passed 20,000 in enrollment), I started the University of Wisconsin School of Home Economics (now Human Ecology). I was delighted that Matilda Schwalbach was one of my first instructors in the Related Art Department; it was like meeting an old friend and made my transition to the UW much easier.
