A vivid memory of WHA radio is anchored in the 40s when, as pupils in the old Nakoma School (where Thoreau School now stands in Madison), we listened to Ranger Mac’s Monday morning broadcasts.
Mr. Wakelin McNeel (Ranger Mac) lived on the corner of Odana and Nakoma Roads – we kids loved to peer at the goldfish in the outdoor pool on the grounds. We speculated on what happened to the fish in winter, but we never got up courage to knock at the door of this famous man and ask him.
